City of Split Chorus Brodosplit

logo
Male Chorus "Brodosplit" was founded in 1972. This chorus has become one of the most appreciated male choruses in Croatia throughout its work, wide range of numerous performances, interesting programmes, valuable interpretations, distinctive sonority and compact quality of voices.

It has an extremely wide and various repertoire from the Renaissance to the composers of our time. It is the preservation of the native region tradition, i.e. Dalmatian folk and concert songs in the harmonizations and artistic interpretations of the most competent Croatian composers that makes this chorus so specific. It promotes the leading spirits of our musical past such as Motovunjanin, Lukačić, Bajamonti, Lamperini, Raffaelli and a great number of other composers, that are unfortunately almost forgotten, though still representing meritorious names of our musical scene.

This chorus was being under the direction of many esteemed pedagogues and conductors such as professor Daniel Šeparović and professor Josip Veršić. Since 1988. chorus has been under direction of the composer and conductor Vlado Sunko, an associate professor at the Art Academy in Split.

Brodosplit was granted many valuable awards and acknowledgements for its industrious work and achievements throughout our homeland (The City of Split Award in the years 1979. and 1994.), The City of Split Medal in 2002., The Split-Dalmatian County Award for 30th successful anniversary of continuance in 2002., 1st Award and the first place winner in the National Choir Competition in Zadar in 1990. and 1995., in Rijeka in 1993. and in Umag in the year 1999.

So far the City of Split Chorus Brodosplit has regularly organized tours abroad. It has been a guest performer in numerous international choir festivals. The results of such efforts are reflected in the best awards achieved on such festivals. One of those awards is also the gold medal in World Choir Games 2006. Xiamen, China, but surely one of the greatest and the most beautiful acknowledgement is the gold medal and the Olympic winner title in the Choir Olympics 2000. Linz, Austria.

Major works included in this chorus’s repertoire are Vlado Sunko’s cantata Zlato Gospine milosti (The Sweetheart of Our Lady’s Mercy), Cherubini’s Requiem, Stipišić's oratorio Uskrsnuće (The Resurrection of Jesus Christ) and the top of the professional acknowledgements has been achieved by the anthological performance of the oratorio written by Boris Papandopulo Muka Gospodina našega Isukrsta (The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ).
